Yekaterinenburg, Russia, 2010-2011 | The conceptual design study for a new train station in Yekaterinenburg was commissioned by the Deutsche Bahn International as a collaboration with the National Russian Railways RZD. The design is using the existing historical train station and building a new circular extension above the existing rail tracks. A public circular walkway is connecting all rail tracks and enabling the inhabitants to access the Northern extension of the city. The center is occupied by a large shopping mall so that the complete rail tracks can be covered. Large openings allow for light to pass to the tracks. On the top of the shopping mall a large public garden is proposed.
